Tough Love Clarification

The 'hurt' is not about physical hurt. I was not talking about spanking or beating my child. Tough love is calling your kids on their shit, and having to watch them get punishment for what they've done, even if you are the one who was responsible for them getting punishment.

Makes me think about a conversation I had yesterday. Someone's kids were getting punished for not appreciating their toys, but then the parents turned around and bought them brand new ones of what they had broken. Now this is punishing a child when it's really the parents' fault.

Tough love you describe is really necessary, but so hard.
