Secrets to getting Telemarketers not to Call!

Don't you hate when telemarketers call? Do you hang up on them, say nothing when you pick up the phone, or put the phone by a loud tv or radio? Well I'm here to tell you that if you do that: they WILL call again!

I've been working a few days of a telemarketing job (the job ad said no cold-calling, but we are calling people that didn't ask to be called). If someone does any of the above, they are called back.

The simple thing to do is tell them to put you on their "Do Not call" list. Even if you are on the National Do Not Call List, you may still get called if you are doing business with that company, or if you requested information some time in the past, or for some other reasons. If you are not on the National Do Not call List, register your phone number on it at the website. If you ask to be put on the telemarketer's company's do not call list, they have to do it.

Another tip is, if the person calling you says they are calling "on behalf of ABC Company", they are not working for that company, they are working for another one (let's call it XYZ Company). Don't just get on the ABC Company's Do-Not-Call List, ask what company they are with, and tell them you want on XYZ Company's Do-Not-Call List as well. Then they won't be calling you again at all. They do say it may take up to 30 days to get your name off their list, yada yada yada. If you are called again by them, tell them you asked to be put on their do not call list.

Unfortunately we do not have the do not call list yet in Canada. The calls are so annoying and always come at the supper hour.

I can't imagine what it must have been like to work a telemarketing job. All those hang-ups cannot be fun to deal with. I think my self-esteem would take a beating knowing almost everyone I call is thinking nasty thoughts about poor me just trying to make a living.

Glad to see by your most recent post that your telemarketing days will be numbered!
